IWF backs down on blocking Wikipedia page

Internet Watch Foundation logoWith all the fuss drummed up about the IWF (Internet Watch Foundation) adding a wikipedia page to their blacklist, therefore blocking UK internet users with 6 of the top ISP’s we now have a response from them. See the previous article about the page being blocked.

The IWF have removed the page from their black list and had this to say:

IWF’s overriding objective is to minimise the availability of indecent images of children on the internet, however, on this occasion our efforts have had the opposite effect.

They are obviously talking about the fact that although lots of users could not access the page, many more around the world wanted to see what the fuss was about, this then brought a lot more users to the article.
