Amazon MP3 downloads come to the UK
I have been waiting for this to happen for months. When the Amazon DRM MP3 store came to the US I was incredibly envious of the two most important things with music downloads (to me anyway).
- DRM free!
- Cheap!
But now the awesome service has come to the UK. All you do is get the MP3 downloader, get your music and it will get added to your itunes/windows media library. It really is as simple as that. have recently been getting more music from iTunes and now I will go straight to Amazon just for the 2 reasons listed above. A lot of the tracks are 20p cheaper than iTunes and many of the albums are £3, over 50% cheaper than iTunes. So what reason is there to go to iTunes? The only reason I can think of is downloading tracks on the iPhone.
Quote from the Amazon MP3 getting started page:
Songs from Amazon MP3 can be played on any MP3-capable device, including iPods, Zunes, Zens, iPhones, RAZRs, BlackBerrys, and most media-enabled mobile phones. Our files are free of digital rights management (DRM) software, so you can burn your songs to CDs, play them on all your computers, and transfer them to all your devices. Songs are encoded at 256 kbps (learn more about MP3 bitrates), which means you get high audio quality at a manageable file size.
What do you think of Amazon MP3? An iTunes music store killer? Or is iTunes too much of a beast to take down? Add your comments below.
