Virgin Comic And MySpace Team Up For Open Source Comics
MySpace has teamed up with Virgin Comics to launch Coalition Comix, a comic book platform for users to work with comic book creators to develop new characters and stories. Coalition Comix is set to go live for participation on August 2, 2007.
Open Source is one of the main buzz words going around at the moment, Facebook is doing this with it’s “applications”. TechJuicer wrote an article about MySpace falling behind in this area, this seems to be the first open source area they have gone into.
This is a different approach from MySpace as this new platform leverages a very large community for the provision of user-generated content. The progression of the story will be voted on by the community, and offers an engaging way for a traditional media company to mix and gain from an amateur participatory user base.
Started by media mogul Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Comics is a newer company with a youthful approach, aligning with much of Sir Branson’s other entrepreneurial interests. Similar projects include Assignment Zero, Zudacomics and Fanlib.
