Kartoo.com – Visual Meta Search Engine

Kartoo is great site is a search engine that shows you behind the scenes of how it works but in a pretty flash, interactive way.

Have a look at the image below as a sample:

As you can see i typed in the search box and it went off and I think it used the Google Search API, amungst others and simply mapped out how it got to the results, relevant sites and how they are related. Even screenshots that I presume are from Amazon data services (same as Alexa use).

Here is what they say on their homepage:

KartOO is a metasearch engine with visual display interfaces.When you click on OK, KartOO launches the query to a set of search engines, gathers the results, compiles them and represents them in a series of interactive maps through a proprietary algorithm

I think its a great little tool although I think it will fairly quickly lose it’s fun. Other plain and simple search engines are much more functional and easier to navigate. But still very clever!
