Google Acquiring FeedBurner

Google BurnerA rumor has started that Google will be acquiring FeedBurner for $100 Million. (Did you hear Dr. Evil voice saying that when you read it??)

If the rumor is legitimate, then Feedburner will enhance not only Google Analytics & Google Reader, but also Google’s relationship with bloggers.

At the moment Google Analytics handles only website statistcs whereas FeedBurner main forte is RSS feed stats. I currently use both these services as Googles statistics are alot better than FeedBurners site stats. But if these two were to combine they would definitely have an amazing tool.

FeedBurner is just cracking into RSS advertising and along with Google companies in a “buy-out online advertising companies” frenzy this seems a great 2 for the price of one acquisition.

There is a main competitor to FeedBurner called Pheedo advertising solution (I wouldn’t be surprised if Yahoo or Microsoft went for it), it is only an advertising solution not statistics etc.

  1. Pheedo *does* do analytics, and in fact publishes a quarterly report on trends in feeds.

And FeedBurner isn’t just getting into RSS advertising. They’ve been doing it for at least three years.

And if you’re trusting a gossip rag (Valleywag) as the source for the amount, you’re nuts. With the amount of funding that FB has, $100mm wouldn’t be enough. Besides, two years ago, FB was rumored to have turned down a $100mm buyout because it wasn’t enough money.
